Our Position on Canine Mutilation Practices

At ProDog, we believe every dog deserves access to real nutrition, whatever their breed, appearance or role. We don't discriminate based on how a dog looks.

We have a clear position on cosmetic and unnecessary procedures carried out on dogs, and we support the vets, charities and organisations working to end them, including:

• Breeding brachycephalic (flat-faced) dogs with known breathing, eye or skin fold problems
• Tail docking in dogs that aren't working dogs
• Ear cropping for cosmetic reasons - we align with the British Veterinary Association and American Veterinary Medical Association on this
• Dewclaw removal for cosmetic, non-medical reasons in non-working breeds
• Neutering very young puppies, or neutering for non-medical reasons where it isn't in the individual dog's interest

We do not use dogs with cropped ears in our own marketing or partner content collaborations. Some of our rescue partners care for dogs who arrive from abroad already cropped, through no choice of their own - our position is against the practice of cropping, not against the dogs who've already been through it.

We're sometimes tagged in photos posted by customers on social media. We have no control over the dogs shown in these posts, or the choices their owners have made.

These are our values as a business. They're not judgements of individual owners. If you have questions about where we stand, get in touch.
